Call or Text (352) 722-5295Air helper springs on the 2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke
The rear suspension is a Hotchkiss leaf setup with springs longer than 66 in, and the 2008 F-250 SRW uses a two-stage leaf pack over a full-floating axle. Those springs are made to carry load, but pin weight from a fifth-wheel or gooseneck sits right over the rear axle and pushes the back of the truck down. Air helper springs mount between the frame and axle alongside the leaves. Add air and the rear comes up; let air out when you unhook. The approach is the same on single-rear-wheel and dually trucks.
What goes wrong and why
The trouble on these trucks is weight, not parts. King-pin weight runs 15 to 25 percent of the trailer and tongue weight 10 to 15 percent, and both count against the GVWR and rear axle rating on your door label. When that weight gets left out of the math, the result is an overloaded rear axle and poor braking. Air springs fix the squat and level the truck. They don't change the numbers on the door label, so your loaded weights still have to fit under them.
Choosing compressors and controls
Start with how you want to adjust pressure. A single load controller fills both air springs to the same pressure. A dual controller lets you set each side on its own, which helps when the load sits heavier on one side. Air Lift's WirelessONE and WirelessAIR compressor systems put a compressor on the truck so you can air up without a shop hose, and the WirelessAIR control system with EZ Mount runs from an app only. The tank kits add an air reservoir to a WirelessONE or WirelessAIR setup. The 2-in and 4-in air spring spacers are for installs where the air springs need extra mounting height.
What we carry

- Replacement on-board air compressor (16192)
- LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus stainless steel upgrade (52300)
- 2-in (52420) and 4-in (52440) air spring spacers
Fitment notes
The compressors, tanks and controllers here work with a rear air spring system, so plan the springs and the controls together. Air spring kits are model-specific, and the rear axle alone varies: the Sterling 10.5 sits under F-250 and F-350 trucks, while heavier Dana units go under many DRW, F-450 and F-550 applications. Match any kit to your exact model, cab, bed and drivetrain using the product's fitment data, then verify by VIN. Engine parts are under the Powerstroke hub.
Frequently asked questions
Will air springs raise my 6.4L Super Duty's towing or payload rating?
No. Air helper springs level the truck and take the sag out of the rear, but the GVWR and rear axle rating on your door label stay the same. Count pin or tongue weight against those numbers before you hook up.
Should I run a single or a dual load controller?
The Single Load Controller II fills both air springs to the same pressure. The Heavy Duty Dual Load Controller lets you set the left and right sides separately. Go dual if your load tends to sit heavier on one side.
Do I need an onboard compressor if I already have air springs?
No. Air springs can be filled at their inflation valves with an air hose. An onboard system such as WirelessONE or WirelessAIR lets you adjust pressure without one, which matters when you hook up away from the shop.
