2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke Built Transmissions

Complete 5R110W TorqShift transmissions for 2003-2007 Ford F-250, F-350 and Super Duty chassis cabs with the 6.0L Powerstroke, from BD Diesel and ATS Diesel Performance. Before you order, know two things about your truck: its model year, because the TorqShift's TCC control valve changed for 2005, and whether it is 2WD or 4WD.

Complete transmissions for the 2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke

Every automatic 6.0L Powerstroke Super Duty left the factory with the 5R110W TorqShift. Ford rated it at 1,000 lb-ft, gave it Tow/Haul and PTO provision, and built in a hidden sixth ratio that only comes into play in extreme cold weather. Diesel histories credit the TorqShift with reliability, longevity and a sophisticated shift schedule. So a complete replacement usually makes sense when a unit is too far gone to rebuild sensibly, or when a work truck needs to be back on the road quickly.

Rule out the smaller fixes first

Not every bad-feeling TorqShift needs replacing. On high-mileage units, a worn TCC control valve causes lockup slip and cycling, with codes such as P0741 or P1783, and the repair is a correct-year valve assembly rather than a whole transmission. Grounds deserve a look too. In one documented 2007 F-350 6.0L, corroded body grounds reading over 20 ohms sent current through the transmission pump until electrolysis destroyed it. If your old unit died like that, clean and test the body and engine grounds before the new one goes in, so it doesn't inherit the same problem.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

Every package in this collection is a complete 5R110 unit, and each listing spells out what you get. Read for the converter, the build details and how any exchange works before you pick one. A truck that tows within its rating on weekends and a truck that pulls heavy every working day put very different demands on a transmission, so match the build to how you actually use the truck. If you're not sure where yours falls, call us and talk it through before you order.

Fitment notes

These are all 5R110 automatics. If your truck has the ZF S6-650 six-speed manual, this isn't your collection. Early 2003 Super Dutys were still 7.3L trucks with the 4R100, so confirm the engine before you order. The TCC control valve changed for 2005, which is one more reason to buy a unit listed for your exact year. The ATS packages cover 2003-2010, but the 2008-and-later 6.4L transmissions carry their own calibration and service parts, so check each listing against your VIN and drivetrain, or call and we'll help. The 6.0L E-Series vans were automatic only, but check the listing before assuming a Super Duty package fits a van.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put one of these in my manual-transmission 6.0L?

Not as a drop-in. These are 5R110 automatics, and manual 6.0L Super Dutys use the ZF S6-650 six-speed with its own internal oil pump and 520 lb-ft rating. Converting a manual truck to an automatic is a much bigger job than a transmission swap, so call before you go down that road.

Do I need a 2003-2004 or a 2005-2007 package?

Buy the one listed for your model year. The TCC control valve inside the TorqShift changed for 2005, and BD lists separate packages for 2003-2004 and 2005-2007 trucks, along with one listed for the full 2003-2007 run. ATS splits its packages by 2WD and 4WD instead, so know your drivetrain too.

Will a transmission out of a 2008-2010 6.4L work in my 6.0L?

Don't assume it will. The 5R110W was used from 2003 through 2010, but the 2008-and-later 6.4L units carry their own calibration and service parts, and the 2003-2007 6.0L units are their own family. Buy a package listed for your truck rather than gambling on a used 6.4L transmission.

Is the torque converter included?

Most of BD's packages are listed as transmission and converter, and the BD 1064484 is sold as an exchange transmission. ATS lists its units as transmission packages. Read each product page for exactly what is in the box, and call if anything is unclear before you order.
