Leaf springs on these trucks are tuned for a range of loads, which means they sit tall empty and settle hard with a heavy tongue or kingpin weight in the bed. Air helper springs work alongside the leaves: you add pressure when the trailer is hooked and bleed it down when the bed is empty. Kits for the 2001-2010 HD chassis operate over roughly 5 to 100 psi, so there is real adjustment between an empty truck and one loaded to its tongue weight limit. Level matters because the factory receiver is only a 7,500 lb trailer and 1,000 lb tongue weight hookup before a weight-distributing hitch with sway control is required, and squat makes every bit of that worse.
Manual fill vs. on-board air
The basic version of this upgrade is a helper spring kit you fill through a pair of valve stems with a shop hose or a portable compressor. It is simple, and fine if you load the truck the same way every time. On-board air is the upgrade: a compressor, a tank and a controller so you adjust pressure from the cab or a phone instead of crawling behind a wheel. If you tow one week and run the truck empty the next, that convenience is the whole point. Spacers are the other piece people forget, since lifted trucks need them to keep the air spring working in its intended range.
What we carry
This page is Air Lift: a LoadLifter 7500XL helper spring kit, a LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus stainless steel upgrade, 2 in and 4 in air spring spacers for lifted trucks, WirelessONE and WirelessAIR compressor systems, matching tank and EZ Mount tank upgrade kits, a replacement on-board air compressor and air line. For hitches, ball mounts and trailer wiring for the same truck, see the other towing collections for this platform or the main hitches and Duramax collections.
Fitment notes
Air spring kits for this chassis cover the 2001-2010 2500HD and 3500 trucks, with spacers available when the truck has been lifted. If you run an in-bed gooseneck or fifth-wheel mount, check the kit first: some air helper spring kits are not compatible with that hardware. Single rear wheel and dually 3500HDs differ in width, and the 2011 HD trucks changed frame and rear springs entirely, so stay within the 2007.5-2010 listings. Verify by VIN or use the fitment checker.
Frequently asked questions
Will air springs raise my payload rating?
No. GVWR is 9,200 lb on a 2500HD, 9,700 to 9,900 lb on a 3500HD single rear wheel and 11,400 lb on a dually, and air springs change none of it. What they change is how the truck sits and rides under a load it is already allowed to carry.
Do air bags fit a lifted Silverado HD?
Usually, with spacers. Lifting the truck stretches the distance the air spring has to span, so 2 in and 4 in spacers are sold to put the spring back in its working range. Tell us how much lift you are running when you order.
Do I need the on-board compressor?
Not strictly. Helper springs work filled by hand, and a compressor kit is optional. It earns its place if your load changes often, since adjusting pressure from the cab beats airing up with a hose every trip. A tank also lets the system hold pressure without the compressor cycling constantly.
