2007.5-2010 Chevy Duramax LMM Downpipes

The downpipe is the short, hot section between the turbo outlet and the oxidation catalyst on a 2007.5-2010 Silverado 2500HD or 3500HD. This page has 3 in stainless replacements for the 6.6L LMM, pipes for trucks running a swapped turbo, and the support brackets and flange gaskets that keep either one from cracking.

The downpipe on a 2007.5-2010 Chevrolet Silverado HD LMM

Everything the turbo pushes out goes through this pipe before it reaches the diesel oxidation catalyst and the diesel particulate filter. It bolts to a flange at the turbine housing, hangs off a support bracket, and on aftermarket 3 in systems it joins the front pipe with a V-band clamp. GM used aluminized stainless for the factory pipe. Because the downpipe bridges the two things that move most, the engine and the frame-mounted exhaust, its joints and brackets take the abuse.

What fails and why

Downpipe trouble is almost always a joint: a leaking lower flange gasket, a broken or missing support bracket, or a clamp that has backed off. A leak here sits ahead of the filter, so along with the tick under load it commonly confuses the filter pressure and temperature sensors and brings on regens the truck did not need. The same logic applies to the manifolds and up-pipe ahead of it, which crack with heat cycles rather than at a set mileage and pull drive pressure down with them.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

A stock-diameter replacement is the simple fix for a pipe that is rusted, cracked or missing its bracket. The common upgrade is a 3 in stainless downpipe for the factory turbo, which leaves the oxidation catalyst and the particulate filter in place and just gives the turbine a straighter, better-sealed path to them. If the truck already runs an aftermarket turbo arrangement, the pipe has to match that turbine housing instead of the stock one, which is why 3 in S300-style and 4 in twin-turbo pipes are listed here. New flange gaskets and the support brackets belong in the cart either way.

What we carry

PPE lists a 3 in stainless downpipe covering 2004.5-2010 Duramax trucks along with downpipe support brackets and the lower flange gasket. MBRP offers an Armor Lite 3 in turbo downpipe for 2001-2016 6.6L trucks. Wehrli Custom Fabrication builds a 3 in S300 down pipe and a 4 in twin-turbo down pipe for trucks with swapped turbochargers. All of it feeds the factory aftertreatment that follows.

Fitment notes

The 3 in downpipe sold for the 2011-2015.5 LML does not fit an LMM, so do not shop by appearance across the 2010 and 2011 split. Match the turbine-housing end to the turbo actually on the truck. Expect a V-band at the front-pipe joint on 3 in systems. Confirm your 2007.5-2010 truck is the new-body HD rather than a 2007 Classic with the LBZ, and check the VIN with the fitment checker.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 2011 or newer LML downpipe fit my LMM Silverado?

No. The 3 in downpipe sold for the 2011-2015.5 LML is a different part and will not fit a 2007.5-2010 truck. Order the pipe listed for the LMM, or the one listed for your aftermarket turbo if the truck has one.

Does a 3 in downpipe change the emissions equipment?

No. A replacement downpipe lives between the turbo and the oxidation catalyst, and the catalyst and particulate filter stay bolted in place behind it. The pipe only changes how exhaust gets to them.

Do I really need the support brackets?

Use them. The bracket keeps the pipe from carrying engine and chassis movement at its flanges, and that movement is what cracks pipes and flattens gaskets. Order the lower flange gasket with the bracket so the joint seals when it goes back together.
