Call or Text (352) 722-5295Oil on the 2007.5-2010 Silverado LMM
Ten quarts with the ACDelco PF2232 filter, and low-ash CJ-4 oil because of the particulate filter on this generation. We are not going to quote you one viscosity for every truck: the grade belongs to your owner's manual and the climate you run in, and every jug here is labeled with its API category and grade so you can match it. What does apply to every LMM is the approach, which is full synthetic low-ash oil with an oil analysis telling you how long it lasts. The engine oil cooler is part of the driver-side radiator tank, so a tired cooling system turns up as oil temperature.
Why the oil goes out of spec
Active regeneration burns soot out of the particulate filter by injecting fuel late in the cycle. Some of that fuel coats the cylinder walls and washes down into the crankcase. The level creeps up, the oil smells like diesel and it thins out, and above about 5 percent fuel by volume it is excessive. Dilution is why a mileage-based change interval is a guess on an LMM and an analysis is not.
Choosing oil, and where additives fit
Most LMM owners are choosing between a full synthetic and a semi-synthetic in a CK-4 category oil, and the full synthetic is the one that leaves room to extend an interval once analysis says you can. The additives here do narrower jobs: oil stabilizers, a TBN booster, a friction reducer, a treatment sold for stiction, and a zinc break-in additive for a freshly rebuilt engine. The racing oils in this collection are built for competition engines, not for a daily-driven Silverado on a long interval.
What we carry
Hot Shot's Secret covers the Green Diamond, Blue Diamond and Black Diamond Outlaw CK-4 engine oils in several grades, a light-duty grade, the ADRENALINE R-Series racing oils, the TBN Booster, the FR3 friction reducer and the Original Stiction Eliminator. Lucas Oil brings CK-4 and CI-4 engine oils, heavy duty and synthetic oil stabilizers and the TB Zinc Plus break-in additive. XDP MFG lists the X-Factor oil additive. The wider Duramax catalog is one level up.
Fitment notes
Oil is not year-specific the way a hard part is, but ash content matters here: the particulate filter on 2007.5-2010 trucks is the reason low-ash oil is required. Check the API category printed on the container, buy enough for a 10-quart fill, and keep break-in and racing oils out of a truck that is driven on the road every day. If you want help picking a grade for a Silverado that tows in Florida heat, call the shop in Wildwood.
Frequently asked questions
How many quarts of oil does a 2007.5-2010 LMM take?
Ten quarts with the filter. Buy three gallons if you want some left for topping off, or two gallons plus a couple of quarts if you measure carefully. The factory filter is the ACDelco PF2232.
Why does my oil level go up instead of down?
Fuel dilution. The regens that clean the particulate filter inject fuel late in the cycle, some of it reaches the crankcase, and the level rises while the oil thins. Above roughly 5 percent fuel by volume is excessive. Send a sample for analysis, then set your interval from that instead of from a number on a sticker.
