2007.5-2010 Chevy Duramax LMM Air Filters

Air filters, elements and wraps for the 2007.5-2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD with the 6.6L LMM Duramax. These trucks came with a high-capacity air cleaner from the factory, so owners here are usually either replacing a loaded element in the stock housing or feeding an aftermarket intake kit with the right filter.

Filtration on the 2007.5-2010 Silverado HD LMM

The element in a Silverado HD is the last thing between road dust and the Garrett GT3788VA compressor, and it also sets how much restriction the engine sees before the turbo. A high-capacity air cleaner was standard equipment on the 2500HD and 3500HD, so the stock housing is not an afterthought; a quality replacement element in it is a legitimate choice. If an aftermarket intake kit has already replaced the box, the filter is matched to that kit instead, which is why you will see both drop-in elements and kit-specific filters on this page.

What fails and why

A filter does not break, it loads. How quickly depends entirely on where the truck works: dust, job-site dirt and dirt-road miles pack an element far faster than highway towing does, so inspect it rather than going by a number someone quoted you. Two other things are worth knowing on an LMM. Crankcase vapor is routed into the intake, so an oil film inside the pipes downstream is normal and is not a sign the filter failed. And an oiled element has to be cleaned and re-oiled when it is serviced, where a dry element does not, which is the practical difference between the two styles.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

Replacement elements drop into the factory housing: the S&B KF-1035 is cataloged across the 2001-2010 Duramax, and Mahle and PPE list elements for these trucks as well. That is the no-fuss path and it keeps the standard high-capacity air cleaner. The upgrade path is a full intake kit, where S&B catalogs the 75-5091 specifically for the 2007.5-2010 LMM in an oiled version and a 75-5091D dry version, and WCFab builds LMM-specific 4 inch kits. Wraps and pre-filters sit over the element, with Banks offering a pre-filter wrap for its own 42138 element and S&B a wrap for the 2001-2010 trucks. Pick oiled or dry first, because that decides how you service it later.

What we carry

S&B covers the replacement KF-1035 element and the WF-1023 filter wrap, Wehrli Custom Fabrication brings a dry 4 inch inlet filter listed across a wide Duramax range, and PPE offers an element filter for the 2006-2010 trucks. Mahle supplies the LX5211 air filter plus the throttle body mounting gasket for 2007.5-2010 engines, and Banks Power has the 42138 element along with the matching pre-filter wrap. For complete intake kits and the piping behind them, see the intake section and the broader Duramax catalog.

Fitment notes

Several of these elements are listed well outside 2007.5-2010 because the housing and inlet size are shared across Duramax generations; full intake kits are not that forgiving and are sold by engine and body, LBZ or LMM, classic or new. A 2007 Silverado HD can be the GMT800 Classic with an LBZ or the GMT900 truck with the LMM, so confirm which one you have. A wrap or pre-filter is sized to a specific element, not to the truck, so match it to the filter part number you are running. Verify by VIN or use the fitment checker.

Frequently asked questions

Oiled or dry element?

Both work. An oiled element is cleaned and re-oiled when it is serviced; a dry one is not, which some owners prefer. S&B sells its LMM intake in both forms, the 75-5091 oiled and the 75-5091D dry, so the choice is about how you want to maintain it rather than about fitment.

Can I keep the factory air box?

Yes. The 2500HD and 3500HD came with a high-capacity air cleaner as standard equipment, and drop-in elements from S&B, Mahle and PPE are made for that housing. A full intake kit replaces the box and tube and is a separate decision.

What does a filter wrap or pre-filter actually do?

It is a sleeve that fits over the outside of the element to catch coarse debris before it reaches the media. Banks sells one for its 42138 element and S&B has the WF-1023 for 2001-2010 Duramax trucks. Buy it by element part number, since a wrap that does not fit the filter is no use.
