Description
Replace the weak OEM head bolts on your 2011-2023 6.7L Powerstroke with the XDP X220 Series Head Stud Kit XD3018HS. Upgrading the factory head bolts is a must when you start adding horsepower and torque to your Super Duty. The stock head bolts can struggle to handle the additional pressure in high-performance applications which leads to the cylinder head lifting. Upgrading to head studs helps to keep the cylinder heads locked down and avoid head gasket failures. Constructed using an 8740 Chromoly Steel with an added proprietary element ensures these studs will not stretch like the stock bolts. The threads are rolled after heat-treating to deliver optimum fatigue strength. These studs are rated at a 220,000 PSI tensile strength to ensure a strong hold under higher combustion pressures.
In addition to the upgraded strength, replacing the head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more precise torque reading. A bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time. With a head stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. Another benefit of studs is they can help offer easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time. These are a must-have for high-performance applications and are reusable, unlike the OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use. Included with the studs are 12-point nuts and washers.

TECH TIPS:
XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers (Sold Separately):
Both the XD40125TC and XD40128TC are a great add-on that will be critical during installation. Thread Cleaning Chasers are an excellent tool to have on-hand to ensure you have properly cleaned the threads in your engine block before the installation of any fasteners. Clean threads provide accurate torque readings and will help give you peace of mind during your engine build or head gasket repair.

Fastener Assembly Lubricant (Sold Separately):
The use of assembly lubricant is highly recommended during engine assembly. Apply lubricant to head studs, head bolts, main studs, main bolts, connecting rod bolts, and any other fasteners used during engine assembly. Using a proper assembly lubricant during fastener installation reduces friction and torque pre-load scatter in the torquing sequence, while also helping to prevent thread galling and seizing.
