XDP XD3016MS X220 Series Main Stud Kit (1994-1997 Cummins)

Swap out the factory main bolts on your 1994-1997 Dodge 5.9L Diesel 12-Valve with the XDP X220 Main Stud Kit XD3016MS. The XDP main studs feature high-quality 8740 Chromoly construction that also includes a proprietary element added for upgraded strength and durability. A 220,000 PSI tensile strength ensures these studs can handle the increased performance of upgraded applications. In addition, the threads are rolled after heat-treating to deliver optimum fatigue strength.

Upgrading from the OEM main bolts to studs also allows you to obtain a much more accurate torque reading. A bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time. With a stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. Furthermore, they provide for easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the main bearing caps every time. These studs are also reusable unlike OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use. Included with the studs are washers and 12-point nuts.

Using Thread Cleaning Chasers ensures that you are able to properly clean the threads in your engine block before the installation of any studs or fasteners. Clean threads will provide you with accurate torque readings which are critical to your head gasket repair, or engine build.

Fastener Assembly Lubricant (Sold Separately):
The use of assembly lubricant is highly recommended during engine assembly. Apply lubricant to head studs, head bolts, main studs, main bolts, connecting rod bolts, and any other fasteners used during engine assembly. Using a proper assembly lubricant during fastener installation reduces friction and torque pre-load scatter in the torquing sequence, while also helping to prevent thread galling and seizing.
